frame connectors 86 ASC McLaren Convertible

Post by mststeel »

Was wondering if anyone has had subframe connectors installed? If so, who did you have do it? I am noticing that my rear tonneau, trunk, hood are not aligning up. I had a friend of mine drive it and he claims there is too much flex in the frame and that I should have someone install frame connectors. Car is in mint condition other than the frame flexing.

I'm interested in installing them, too! I don't have any sag in the car but I thought it wouldn't hurt. I don't see a brace under the car either--the one they would have installed on stock convertibles. I believe they call it the chassis brace?

I am looking into the bolt/weld on connectors that weld onto the frame at the front and rear of the connectors and use the seat bolts to bolt to the floor board.

Mustangs Unlimited sells a kit that includes the subframe connectors, the engine bay strut tower brace and the chassis brace:

http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy ... T1=SS86+01

But, I think the better set up would be to use the upgraded strut tower brace:

http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy ... BBK2504+01

And the upgraded subframe connectors:

http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy ... BBK2542+01

I would weld on the subframe connectors, I'm not crazy about drilling holes in the frame for the bolts.

I have the same question--has anyone installed them and is it worth it??

OK, I found one--Mustangs Unlimited:

http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy ... 1=SMRF4+01

Is that what you got and if so, how hard was it to install? Do you need to drill holes??

MercRS,

How did you install your rear shock tower brace? I looked at my car and there is a metal cover or brace that goes from one side of the car to the other, completely covering the are where the brace would go. The only ones I have seen show the bar connecting the top of the rear shocks to each other and not having anything else around them.

maximum motorsports has alot off suspension stuff and brake up grade options the rear tower brace is not worth the time. get xl full length connectors and have them welded in. it will make a big difference to how the car feels

the shock tower brace takes all the shake from the rear away
the metal was notched so the brace could go through it

OK, so I'm looking at installing the subframe connectors. I watched the youtube videos and the different vendor videos and no one talks about taking the carpet out to keep from catching fire from welding. Seems to me that you would have to?!

Has anyone installed the frame connectors and did you take the carpet out?

I can't see how to install that rear shock tower brace!! I jacked the car up and took the wheels off, but there is no way I can slip the brace in! I don't think I can even replace the shock!?

I took out all the carpet under the tonneau and in the trunk.

You said yours was notched? Do you have a pic?

OK, OK, I'm feeling stupid, I found the top of the shock, It was covered in carpet, I was looking for an access in the bracing piece ASC welded between the wheel wells.
