Winter Storage

Post by ascmclarn »

What is the best way to store the convertable top for the winter? Up or Down(in a garage of course)? And is there a way to keep the plastic windows from drying out over time? Or will the fact that it is garage kept now help things out? Any suggestions?

Keep in mind more damage is done during the raising and lowering of the top than at any other time! Paint chips/dings around the tonneau, on the quarter cover caps, gouges in the tonneau cover itself, rips in the canvas top and cracks in the plastic window all tend to occur when raising and lowering. If you ride around a lot with the top up and want to keep a neat and clean crisp set of lines in the canvas and rear window at all times, by all means store with the top up. Personally, I hate the looks of the car with the top up and have only put mine up twice in the past 3 years when it was parked over night away from home. Also, the top rubber seal screws up the paint around the tonneau cover when in the up position and is a PITA to wax and clean without messing something else up. If you leave it down, the only caution is when you do raise the top make sure it is a warm day and wait a couple of hours before securing to the tonneau and stretching out the canvas/plastic. The canvas/pastic will return to normal shape in a matter of hours on a warm day.

Winter Storage = Top up, windows closed = car covered with either a car cover or old quilts. Disconnnect battery, store with full tank of gas.
