I emailed the seller. Here's his response:

"Thank you for your ever so kind words. I have researched the VIN and the 1586 all matches up. Please research the VIN, thus the reason it is listed on the listing itself. May God Bless, -Drew"

The first sentence is sarcasm, considering what I wrote him.

Here is what he said in response to my inquiry. I guess that he is saying that he talked to Hank.

This car looks allot like a LX/GT I know, but when I called to get insurance I found out then that the VIN for it shows it to be a McLaren, $660 a month for full coverage on a collector car, I thought yeah right I can get parts from an LX or GT. So I did some calling and the guy at ascmclaren.com says my VIN and badge number match and that the car is a McLaren. So all I can say is sorry it looks different, but none the less the VIN doesn't lie. The only thing I could think of is maybe it was stripped and not turned in on insuranse and was fixed with regular mustang stuff, because it was cheaper. We did buy a new top for it, and the previous owner said they put in a new windshield frame and top assembly. Please research my VIN to see for yourself. Anyway thanks for your inquiry, and May God Bless, -Drew

Funny I emailed the guy when I first posted this and never got a response. I wouldnt be surprised if they took a stolen GT and placed the vin tags of the Mclaren on this car. If this was a Mclaren that was hit, why did the production tag fall off the dash and drop on side fender? Why would the door inserts fall off I mean the steering wheel cover stayed on. How bout the windshield, if it was a roll over perhaps they straightened it but by then the title would show totalled. Also shouldnt the title have D32 in it or was that just the Capri? I am to lazy to go look at mine atm.

I apprecitae the kindness, well let me say of the total of 12..... your email has been the nicest. Well, Sandy should be able to verify the vin.

Sounds like a vin switcheroo.

More then likely so. I just checked my vin and its pretty close to what this one is reported as. No D32 in there, but its real and Sandy verified. It makes no sense to believe that someone did all that work to convert it back to a regular GT. Even if it were stripped the cost of the pillar being positioned back must be enormous.

Okay. THAT VIN is in fact a McLaren.....but....

it was a BLACK McLaren, with Tan leather sport seats, Tan roof and Gold Mesh wheels. It was, indeed a 5-Speed stick. No Radar & No Recaros.
It's dash plaque of 1466, indicates it was the 11th from the last 1988 made. Obviously, somebody has switched VINS on this thing.

Nick......, please refresh my memory, when did I verify this to you, as you state above......

I mentioned you verified my vehicle, not this in particular one. Basically what you did was the traditional break down on the vin that you do for us all and we greatly appreciate. It was back in Feb of '01 with my car if I remember correctly. My car was also one of the last 99 cars made that went to Canada at one point. Black, beige interior, black top, 5spd thats why I mentioned our vins were pretty close to the one reported.

That was a very bad business principle of making unsold cars, IN THAT QUANTITY ! I shy away (learned from past experience) of telling that story to owners, as I have come to find that they get all worked up over nothing that really involves them. But, it was bad judgement on the part of everyone involved. Over producing 99 Honda Civics is nothing, but over producing 99 ascMcLarens, LATE IN THE MODEL YEAR, is horrific!

"This listing (#4602924378) has been removed or is no longer available. Please make sure you entered the right item number. "

We must have shown the truth to this seller. I know I tried by sending him a link to all my Fotki albums.
