Maybe is was a standard issue 1985 Capri that was... should I say it...

... to look like an asc/McLaren Coupe.
Depending on the level the owner wanted to take it to, it is possible.
VIN # 1MEPB79M5FF614999 is a 1985 Mercury Capri.
Food for thought.

If that's the case this guy did a hell of a job. It sure looked good. Had headlight and taillight covers, orange wheels, grey piping int. and a great paint job and that was the VIN.Euro#13 wrote:Maybe is was a standard issue 1985 Capri that was... should I say it......cloned...

A bunch of things wrong with the car.
I'd want a Marti report on the car. I'd also want to see the buck tags and door tags.
From what Sandy told me on the QT, North Town played fast and loose with the asc parts they got and how they installed them. The car may have never gotten the shift knob if the owner didn't pay "extra" even though it was supposed to be part of the package. Over the years I find this to be true as NT cars seem to pop up with the strangest irregularities.
No 85 had the plaque, the rear speakers are wrong, etc. Just too many things "off" to not do a ton of homework on this car to verify it.

He told me the same thing. I stopped in there once and Sandy was right going by the couple cars on their showfloor.negusm wrote:A bunch of things wrong with the car.

Yes, it is an 85 car. The VIN falls in the middle of the run.scott86capri wrote:Mike, I have been under the impression that Northtowne only did eurocoupes and only in 1986 this is clearly an 85 motor is it not??? It is a very strange car that is for sure.
I need to go back and search out those old emails.
I think the "gist" of it is that yes, the ECs were assembled there in 86. However, the FP cars that came in, often came with some parts to still be installed. These were not always installed.
Also, because of their huge number of asc car sales, they had a TON of asc parts. I was told that a few "fakers" may have "snuck" off the lot. In 86 especially, I was told they were desperate to get more asc cars to sell.
