WANTED: 85 Capri convertible Pull Down Motor

Post by red390gt »

I am looking for a good user 85 Capri convertible pull down motor. Mine works but the plastic mounts are striped and cracked so i can't mount it. All I really need is the new plastic mount but I don't think I'll find one used. Here's a pic of the motor I need. Email me if you have one at red390gt@yahoo.com. Thanks

I may be wrong, but judging from the picture that is a fairly standard trunk pull down motor. Wander through a couple junk yards and you should find a bunch of them.

Shiny Side up!

If you do a search on this site. I think it's actually a GM Caddy Trunk Pull down motor.

Hank may have them. But he wants way to much because all he is doing is fixing the usual problem with the gear. The motror is not bad on mine it is just the gear  .

I heard that the Capri was the GM's Caddy motor. Is the Caddy a 85 pull down motor for that year  ?

Caddy, Olds, Buick from that era. Also some Lincoln TC and Continental use the same motor. I got mine on eBay from an Olds for $12. There are two different styles. 3 wire and 4 wire. Get the 3 wire, the other won't work.

The reason I always omit 1985 & 1986 is because in those 2 years the power trunk RELEASEwas standard on the GM cars, BUT the power PULL-DOWN was OPTIONAL !! {Yes, even on the Cadillacs!} So.....I'd hate to see someone go thru all the effort to have cars in the junk yard moved about to reach a Caddy, if the Caddy was a 1985 or a 1986 & then find it didn't have it !! ALL 1989-1993 had it & It's the correct one. Pre-1984 are good also. The installation rate for the Pwr. pull down in the 1985 & 1986 was poor, so more than 70% do not have it.

WTB 85-86 convertible pulldown motor

What about the Camaro and Firebird of the mid 80s? My wife had a Camaro that had a hatch pulldown motor on it.

I don't follow this issue much since I don't own a vert.

BUT it comes back constantly.

Has anyone gotten the GM part number for this? GM often has parts around MUCH longer than Ford keeps them. If you know the part number you can probably find them. You might even be able to cross reference them and get MANY part numbers for all the years they were made.

I recently purchased a brandy new one, for my collector Cadillac. They ARE still available! But unless you own a "show" Cadillac, you are waaay better off at a junk yard. MSRLP and what the parts Dept. will charge you is $345.00 !! !!

Their life expectency is around 7 years, with normal use. With ABnormal use, mine lasted 13 years.

They are an old fashioned "Worm Gear" and over the years they develop grease & / or dirt particles, that jamb the system and the system has to be taken apart, cleaned and put back together. Frequently after such they still will not work. Better to buy new and 4-get about it for half a decade ! But for the mechanicaly inclined & handy, a used one for $20. at a salvage yard will do nicely.

Sandy, only you pay full price at the dealer. :P

If you go through a NOS parts house or a discount GM on-line parts dealer, I bet the priced is less. I know Green Sales usually quotes me 30% below what Ford wants for the same part.

PLUS, if you have the part number...and the part has common worn elements, there may be a rebuild kit from GM that you can get...much like the rebuild kits for the Fox Mustang/Cpari power window motor gears! A motor cost over $100! The gears are like $10!
