1984 #26 convertible, suspension restoration

Post by Paul C. »

I figured by putting the date, type car, and then the restoration area it would help organize all the information.

Ok, we plan to replace the struts, shocks, bushings, tie rods, etc. Any information on part numbers, original vendors, etc. would be helpful. At 23 years and 86,000 miles, you have to look at the guts before you can add the makeup. :) haha

Looking back through the older postings I found information on the carrera 5375 shocks and the thunderbird turbo coupe tie rod ends. Is this the correct stuff for the 84 verts?? This forum is a total gold mne of information. Y'all do an excellent job of representing the Mclaren as a whole. :) :notworthy:

As luck would have it carrera (spelling??) merged with QA1. QA1 is located in Lakeville, MN, down by the airport. About 30 minutes from my house and even closer for Tom S. whoopee!!

Supposedly, coupes got that stuff. The verts did not.

Not sure on what the 84s got. They are kind of scarce and so not too many people have them or post up what they have found.

The best guess is that they would have probably gotten lowering springs and probably not much else.

I would say the best bet for you would be to look things under the car and report back. Take some pictures, etc and post them.

Yes, as Mike said, the coupes (only) got those goodies. The verts got a set of Ford Motorsport lowering springs.
Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

Yes, I think he found a post I made regarding a newer model of Carrerra shocks.

BTW, Peter, I picked up a worn out set of original front asc carrerra shocks. I'll try and see what part numbers those are. I was told there are no part numbers on them but maybe I'll shoot a picture to Carrerra and see.
