Coupe #67

Post by scoutdrivinrebel »

I started getting excited at the prospect of finally finding an 86 Coupe. Located #67, made a call to the owner. Everything sounded great, until I asked him the price. He wants no less than $20,000 for it. Don't get me wrong, I think these are really cool cars, but I don't think their values have reached that level. I guess it all depends on what someone is willing to pay. He said the car has 48,000 miles, has had one repaint, a cracked ground effect, and the cruise doesnt work. Other than that he said it is in excellent condition. I should have bought the black one on Hanks site for $12,000 a year ago. It only had 22,000 babied miles and looked nearly perfect except for questionable door panels and a lack of radar detector. I guess you live and learn. I just cant see paying $20,000. It would have to be the level of Sandy's coupe to pay that much. Oh well, the search goes on.

The first thing out of his mouth when we started talking price was that he had been told, " because they dont make them anymore it could be worth $80-100,000." At that point I knew it was a dead deal. He didnt sound like he had any intention of selling it for less than $20,000. The money would be on the way to him if he had said $8,000-10,000. I didnt bother leaving him my info. I'll keep his number and call him in 6 months. I guarantee he'll still have the car for that price.

I'm still kicking myself for not buying that black one. I don't think it ended up going for $12,000. But I have been told it did sell.

FWIW Dept.

I'd want $20,000 for mine. But, it's new, brand new. No excuses. It's 100% Original, no aftermarket, no customization to my likes. Brochure correct. Mileage 688, lives in temp controlled - dehumidified surroundings, all paperwork intact, all records of oil changes, etc. Never been in a bodyshop. Everything works as designed to. Original NO Cracks tires, no fading, no paint cracking, no curled tips on tape striping, just as it was the day it left the factory, but frozen in time. Rare Smoke Charcoal Grey, too.

Now, if I could get Carroll Shelby to sign it ~ then it would be worth $45,000.00, right ?? :D

Okay, I overlooked that it had 5 days left....So, yes, it will top $4,000, but I can't see it over $5,000. To me, the repaint hurts it. But, that's just me.

Agreed...your car is not even in the same league as this one, so there is no comparison on value.

You know he hasn't given any reason to pay more than 6k -8k for the car. I've asked him for more pictures without a response. Who knows what the interior really looks like?

There is no way this car is in the same league as Sandy's, he is just not very well informed.

With the information provided I would hesitate to go over 6k... It is his job to "SELL" the car too by providing photos and info!

Nice car, but the owner is dreaming......

The other observation is........if he wants $20k for his car he needs to put together a "$20K level ad". Needs to add a dozen more pics and more description.

Is it just my eyes or does he have 2 different types of rims from front to back???

I've also been keeping my eyes open for an '86 coupe for awhile...I also really liked the black '86 on Hank's site awhile back (I had Sandy decode the vin for me). Could kick myself for letting that one go, but didn't feel the market supported a $12k coupe just yet......Looking through the ebay ad for #67, I recoiled in horror when I read the "Questions to Seller" when someone asked if it was reliable - "would it serve well as a daily driver"?! Please, someone save this one - as I work for Chrysler right now, I'm keeping the checkbook closed for awhile!

i think that the front rim in the photo is in a shadow hence it looks different.

I really like this color combo! It's my new favorite! The car does not look like it will need much work to be a very nice car.

Hey, new to site and i am watching silver coupe on e-bay too.The owner sent me pics of interior (front and back) I can assure you interior is mint. I also asked him about this so called 20k reserve and he quote ,"I never spoke to anybody about a reserve $, Thats why it's called a reserve". Sounds like someone is trying to scare lookers off!
