88 vert switch wiring
88 vert switch wiring
Is there anybody out there who know's the correct position the wires need to be in on the back of the convertible switch? I just bought an 88 without a switch and of course the new switch i ordered had no instructions.. I already talked to Henry he wasn't of any help. If it helps there are five wires.. 2 black 1 pink 1 white and 1 red
Well I searched Hank's website http://www.ascmclaren.com and found the wiring, legend, shecmatic for the convertible wiring. I don't know if this well help but the schematic can probably help if you know how to read one.

The switch has 2 posistions, and is spring loaded, meaning it always returns to the center posistion.
Pushing the top portion of the switch, first pops the tonneau UP like 3 inches or so, and then the big fat aluminum screw set into the worm gear reverse twists and unscrews itself up & out of the hole.
You must manually close and sedure the tonneau. Once done, you insert the above screw and gently push downward until you feel or hear the first "click" ~ trhen reaching around pust the bottom portion of the switch and the worm gear will spin thw oppisite direction and pul down the big screw.
It's EXTREMELY important to NEVER EVER hold that switch biutton down until the screw stops. ALWAYS ALWAYS stop it (let go the switch) BEFORE the top is all the way down and the worm gear stops.
As I have told countless 100s of owners, ALWAYS leave enough room under the top's fabric binding (that would sit against the tonneau) to be able to roll a cigarete or pencil under !! !! !!
Why? They tent to get jammed, and NOT wanna release to lower the top.
Then you've got trouble !! IF IF IF You leave just enough "space" if she will not release, that you can push the bottom of the switch, and attempt to pull the top DOWN onto the tonneau - you will have "freed" the glitch, and will then be able to reverse it & lower the top.
Never hold the button (when putting the top UP) until the worm gear stops. YOU always STOP FIRST - leaving the ability to go the other way, if only for 1/2 inch, it will do the trick !!
