ASC/McLaren at the Queen Mary Car Show

Added some pictures to my album. Check out my Vert at the car show. Only placed third, but got a couple of magazine feature prospects offered. We'll see. People that new about the ASC's were shocked to see one. It was a great day.

Congrats Mike! Nice job. Third place amongst what, 400 Mustangs? Pretty awesome I would say.

oops. i forgot to clarify. yes 400 mustangs but individual classes. mine was in the '79-93 class. I competed with only four mustangs. CHP mustang took first, a heavily modified '89 GT Vert took second and I was third. My car should have been in the stock class. it will be next year. It is hard placing at this show anyways because it is peoples choice and a lot of the people showing their cars are members of the club that sponsors it so.... It's a great show though and i have taken home a trophy every year I've entered.

Some thoughts....

1st, your McLaren is drop dead georgous! So much nicer with the correct wheels, too. Really really a lOOOker ! The frontal pic of the Mach I & the McLaren...... If I did not know, i'd guess the McLaren was the newer of the two. It looks more modern.
2nd, Whose SRT8 Charger is that? I like those cars, too. ! Why no Moonroof?
3rd, ALWAYS go "Stock" ~ it's difficult to win ANYTHING (you did good) against folks eho drop $10,000 in custom mods.

House is nice, too.

Sandy, thanks for the compliment. especially coming from a guy who owns a few, just like new McLarens.

I initially went stock but it was thought by me and the point of contact for the show, that we would get a lot of crap from the stock mustang owners as this vehicle technically isn't "factory stock" I like to win trophies, but i also like to just sit back and enjoy the day, brag about my car and not have to worry about the a**holes.

I did my best in representing the group. a lot of people were snapping detailed photos of the car (including Mustang Monthly) and asking questions. it's a real conversation piece and my voice was hoarse from all the talking (worth it). Next year it will be in the stock class or if i can get a couple of you guys down to Long Beach for the show (at least Three) we could have our own class.

the srt8 isn't. the cars belongs to my wife. it started as a previous rental and I put the scoop, spoiler and chin spoiler on it. the car is pretty quick as it has a HO 3.5 litre with cold air intake, sounds turbocharged too. it's pretty much all show and no go. Child seats in the back way it down

Ah, the challenge is on. I'd like to make next years show with my '89. It's also very hard to win a peoples choice with a white car.

Actually the ascMcLaren *IS* "factory" ~ let me explain. But first, turn your attention to:

* Steeda
* Saleen
and all of the seemingly 100's of other convertors.....

NONE of them ever recieved SPECIAL attention FROM FoMoCo!
NONE of them ever recieved their own build code FROM FoMoCo.

ONLY ascMcLarens did, CODE D32, specially prepaired via DELETING items that ascMcLaren did not want/need in the build, and
can actually be traced via the D32 code.

It may NOT be factory made, but they were absoluty Factory recognized, and Factory Purpose Built !

Those who try & tell you they were (are) not,are no better than a 3rd grader telling you what chemestry symbols represent !

Furthermore, I have a picture of a line of 1989 Mustang LX V-8 2-Door Sedans coming down the Dearborn Assembly line wearing paper "cones" (like the large orange highway cones used to divert traffic at work sites on the highway) - but made of stiff paper on the roofs of all D32 cars with ascMcLaren written in white wax on the driver's side glass, so that they'd be made to ascMcLaren requirements.
Can anyone of the auto show "know-it-alls" ever produce such for any Saleen / Steeda or___?____ ~ No, they can not.

Great pictures of your car! Looks good.

I understand your opinion on the trophy/placing results of the car show. "Been there-done that"......in that same situation in OH/MICH. There are alot of ways/things that could be the culprit in why "our" cars don't get respect at times. In your most recent situation with the competition of a CHP, and a mod. 89 GT (Was that sitting next to you in your photo?) and you didn't mention the 4th car in your class. Not seeing the cars you were up against, I would say in general 1st or 2nd would've been more realistic, since you were in the "modified" class. I agree with Sandy, you/all of us should be in the "stock" class.

Then there is the "I'm a local/regular/in the towncarclub" aspect. When you see blatant bias going on with all the "club cars" winning each category (when its obvious the "new guy" with the Boss 429 in mint condition doesn't place - ex.) it really gives people a bad taste in their mouth and they won't be back to that show, especially when show promoters generally try to increase the show participation each year.

Sandy thanks for the background on the builds. I'll make sure i shove it down the throats of the haters in the stock class next year. if there are any. While i am thinking about it. I have the original window sticker and on the right side where I believe the optional equipment is listed the pricing has been whited out and re-typed. wonder what was up with that. Any ideas?

You guys are right with white cars being overlooked as opposed to say, a red one. And sometimes I really have to go out of my way to get people to take notice. like puting the top half way retracted with the tonneau cover up and the ASCMcLaren windshield sticker. Gets the attention of people who have forgotten about these cars or those who never heard of them before.

Yes the blue stang next to my car took second. the CHP car was on the other side of that and the 4th was an '86 GT, white with t-tops. All of the cars in my class were very clean, but mine did draw a lot of attention so I was a little surprised with the third place. I'm good with it, had a good time and got to show off my baby. and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. thanks for the input guys

Our Convertibles NEVER had a window sticker !

The original window sticker was affixed at dearborn, and was "lost" when ascMcLaren removed & trashed the windows (side door windows) for the new ascMcLaren side door windows. ascMcLaren did not install a window sticker, allowing the dealer to do so.

If you have access to a scanner, scan it. I'd love to see what you are holding there......
