(2) ASC McLaren Wheels....need to find a new home

Post by BLOWN93LX »

I've got (2) McLaren Wheels that I want to get rid of....have to clean the basement up and these need to go. $150 plus shipping....obo.

I'm not sure what exactly they are called, but I saw another McLaren web page that called them mesh anthracite. They are a dark grey with the face of the mesh and the outer rim brushed/polished aluminum. Both wheels look to be in decent shape....no major blemishes other than just being 20+ years old.

One of them has MSW cast in to the hub where the other has ASC....maybe a knock-off? Other than that they are identical.

I've got pictures I can email out, if your interested email me robguy@woh.rr.com. I really want find a new home for these quick....need the space.

Also, looking for an Aeromotive A1000 pump and 100 micron filter....willing to trade/pay with the rims.

I don't think the asc center caps are going to fit on the MSW wheel. I could be wrong but I have not heard of any asc car with MSW stamped wheels. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone else will pipe up.

Also, on the asc wheel, there should be a code determining the "type" of wheel. TYP-34F allows for outside loading center caps. The wheels stamped with the other code (don't remember) have to have the center caps pushed in from the inside (while the wheel is off the car). You may want to post that info as it is important.

asc wheels

mike - the wheel caps should fit. I had a set of the silver msw's for my 87 as back ups and I am almost certain the caps were interchangeable as MSW did make the wheels. Sandy will chime in, I am sure, but I am like 99.9 percent sure....

Sorry to dissapoint, but over the years I've heard conflecting reports from OWNERS. They WERE made (and are) MSW wheels, but there were a couple of different castings. That is why some say MSW and others say McLaren. (or ASC McLaren). I've been told that some center caps installfrom the backside and others from the from side.... I don't believe that the "look" is altered, just the installation is different.
More than that, I don't really know, as my OWN personal experience is limited due to the fact that my cars are all virgins and nothing has been taken apart on them.

I have one of each wheels with the center caps, I'll see if they are interchangeable. Looking at them they appear to be idenical.

How can I post pictures on this forum?

Thanks for the input. Is there any chance they mixed MSW and ASC wheels at the factory? They both came off the same car...just curious.

Sandy, I went looking and you said that they weren't made by MSW, they were just imported by them but made by Campignolio....but in either case I see the link now to MSW.

Click the album icon in your post above. Then click the Upload image button.

Yes, made by Campignolio, FOR MSW, as MSW is (was ?) the distrubitor OF Campy rims in America.

So are MSW "Factory" wheels or a knock-off?

i know for a fact! ascmclaren installed MSW wheels on our cars (87-88). the msw wheels center hub should stick out about 1/2" from the face of the wheel while the ascmclaren stamped wheels center hub will be flush with the face of the wheel.

please send me an email with pics of the wheels to tfs2121 at yahoo dot com

is your car in lima? i lived in lima for 3 years and saw 1 mclaren once in wapak (shaine's car)
