Your thoughts/Comments on starting Class for Shows

This was sent to Mustang Club Of Mid Michigan in the hopes of starting a NEW class at the shows for Capri's and Mustangs from ASC.

I would like to request if possible that next year a slight addition be made to your car show Class categories. For A few years ASC-McLaren made specialties cars for Ford and Lincoln Mercury, mostly on the Mercury side as convertibles and the famed Black Magic Capri’s. Some other specialty cars came out of ASC-McLaren as the Detroit Grand Prix IV Capri pace cars and some convertible Mustangs and Capri’s. Almost all were sold thru the Dealer networks as Ford offerings.

I would like to ask you if you would consider adding a Category for the ASC-McLaren’s as you have for Saleen , Rousch, Shelby and SHO …..I think there would be an interest from the Detroit area, the Four Eyed Pride list and the ASC-McLaren list to attend your event if this was added.

Now for the Second part of my letter. In 2010 the ASC McLaren built Detroit Grand Prix IV Capri Pace Cars will be celebrating there 25th year in existence and also the transition to Historical Car status in Michigan . I am currently trying to get as many Capri Pace cars to come together in one place for this Reunion. My thoughts that your Car show would be a great place to have this gathering.

asc didnt make the Black Magic Capri's.

but i do think there should be a Capri catagory. problem is i dont think enough capri's attend these events.
same for the ASC's. if Saleen has a seperate catagory, why not ASC?

but again, i dont think enough ASC's attend these events.

Now if there is an advance head count for one of these shows, and there is a good number of capri's and ASC's attending the show, then you could petition to the show orginizers that a catagory for asc/capris be created.

but this would have to be done well in advance of the show in question.

That is a concern about cars showing up.

Dave and I have talked about a Capri only Class.

I lot of this is prep work for 2010 for a BIG GrandPrix Capri reunion.

well, your prep work should start with actually contacting the owners well in advance.
getting more than 4 or 5 owners to commit is going to be the hardest part.


then i would look at a big event to attach the reunion to(woodward/national mustang show/detroit grand prix/carlisle, pa...etc.).

After that i would look to contact the events orginizors and see if you can work with them on the gp4 reunion.(getting a big spot for the cars, promotions/support from the event people..etc)

after that i would work with the gp4 owners/event people on set up & execution of the event.
stuff like banners, display areas, car parking...etc.

also activites apart from the actual show. things such as a meeting spot to drive in/out together.



thats how I would do it.
