TO MIKE NEGUS and others.

Post by Sandy »

As you know, I am not regstered on and very very seldom go to the other site 4 eyed pride. Today... I visited. I read the ...what...10 pages discussing the body buck tag's unusal NLR codding thereon.
Then I happened to go to this site:
http://www.gt350mustang.com/vin.htm
where I got a good laugh, as there was a tiny
bit about NLR, there too. They decided that it stands for
"NO LOUVERS--Rear" at one point a contributer
- referring to the explanation types No Lovers- Rear

So.... why didn't ANYbody ask me ?? :?:
NLR = Noise Level Reduction :!:
It was included on Mustangs/Capris that were fitted
with a different muffler system (I don't know what was different;
perhapps a more aggressive sound).

The noise level reduction was some product to bring the
exhaust system down into legal OEM levels of noise,
while still using an agressive muffler system.

It could be add'l. noise reduction in the inner body
panels of the car, more than likely and/or within
the muffler itself.

Put a 1985 Mustang GT next to a 1985 86 McLaren Coupe
and rev the motor up & down to hear that the McLaren has a deeper
and more aggressive tone.

Now I go back to bed. Bad Bad > Big bad Cold.

It's not going to be a change to the exhaust or we would have seen multiple part numbers for 85 cars.

It must be with the sound deadening material.

Sandy, how did you come accross that information?

Yes, exactly. Sorry If I wasn't totally clear.
A long time ago I asked a good friend up at
ascMcLaren and he looked it up (somewhere)
and wrote me with the info. Actually I recall
being "let down" ! I thought it was some
super-duper special code to make the car go
faster, OR a special handling procedure &
when I found out it was "just" sound
reductiion from the exhaust (muffler) I was
"bored" and disappointed.

The only real "Special" code on the Coupes
is D32. That denoted it was going to be an
ascMcLaren.
or it could be......NO Lovers -Rear !

I registered at 4 Eyed pride today.

It is a very difficult site to use. Couldn't post in the 'Newcomers' section and can't post a pic without a URL. I have no ******* idea how to get a URL for pictures in my computer. Guess I'll just let the 3 months go by without posting anything and then they'll drop me!!

Obviously it's a site for 'computer geeks' and not us average car buffs!!

Yes I did. But had to create a new thread to do it. Not where I wanted it.

You can hit the "quote" button and clear out all the text. Or use one of the buttons next to the quote button.

I don't really like how that forum software works either.

Was this 'Noise Level Reduction' package something above and beyond the 'Sound Insulation' package that was, according to the Ford/Mercury 'car/product facts' books, standard equipment in every model beginning in the 1984 model year?

Trust me, if I am able to figure out how to post at FEP, anyone can. I am the furthest thing from a computer geek.

Fox Chassis yes it was seperate, and additional.

75cougar says: "I am the furthest thing from a computer geek."

I take issue with that! I AM the dumbest on earth with computers.
It's akin to awakening one morning to find you now have 3 arms and 3 hands with an additional 5 fingers.
'Ya know it's good, but ya can't figure out how to use the new apendage,
so, it's always in the way !!

That's me with computers. My son will show me how to do something 5 times - yet when I want to do whatever it was, I cannot remember what he showed me. Very hard for me to learn totally new stuff.

Could be an effect of the Chemo - 1,800 hours worth - to date.

Reading from a Ford manual on line, I came across this:

....(on Ford production engines and dynamometer control applications.
NLR (noise Level Reduction) NLR, as it's called.......
