TO MIKE NEGUS and others.
I don't think DF is going to be for a remote deck lid release. Foxchassis can correct me but I think DF is on far too many buck tags for that option. There are very very few cars without DF or ST and many more without remote decklid release, same with tilt steering.

On the Build Sheet, look at Row F, Position 35 (Front End - Steering Wheel/Column - Type of Col).KHummel66 wrote:I took a look at a build sheet, VC label decode, and buck tag to see what is (and is not) listed on each. One thing I didn't see on either the build sheet or VC label is a place for a tilt column code (please correct me if I overlooked it or if it is part of some package grouping), but it would have to be on at least one of them, so that leaves the buck tag.
A "T" indicates the tilt steering wheel option.
The remote decklid/liftgate release was part of the power lock group so the PL/WD code on the Buck Tag takes care of it.KHummel66 wrote:Also, the build sheet shows 3 "Power Aids" - Deck Lid, Locks, & Windows, but only codes for Locks and Windows have been ID'd on buck tags; it would be logical that deck lid would be on it too.
That two-digit number ('06' in your case) will always be there, at least on '81+ Dearborn tags. That indicates the rear trunk/liftgate assembly type, e.g. two-door w/ defrost, or three-door w/ louvers, or three-door w/o defrost, etc.KHummel66 wrote:I also did a comparison of the tags on my 83 V6 auto Crimson Cat, 85 asc vert, and 86 asc vert and how each is optioned out to see if anything stood out. Of the un-ID'd codes all 3 cars have DF, ST, and an 06 after AC; and all 3 are equipped with intermittent wipers, tilt wheels, deck lid release and the center info center. While I can't come up with any logic to the code's characters, I'm wondering if:
- could the DF be for a remote deck lid release?
- if ST can't be for Steering Tilt, could an 06 after AC be that (or the DF perhaps)?
- could the ST be for the console info center?
There will also always be another two-digit number on the next line, for the hood type, i.e. either w/o hood scoop or w/ hood scoop (and the type of scoop if with).
I would have to look at the factory literature to confirm, but I think the center console was standard equipment in 'luxury' (Ghia/GLX) models. I know for sure that it was standard in the 'sport' (GT/RS, Turbo GT/RS, SVO) models. Included with the center console was the info center (switches in the SVO) and clock. The console was optional in any model it wasn't standard. On the early (before '81) Buck Tags, I believe the console was indicated by a "C" but I'm not 100% sure.
I don't know what 'ELECTRIC' (changed to 'EL' in late '84) is and I haven't tried to figure it out yet.KHummel66 wrote:Also, the V6 Cat has an electric cooling fan instead of a belt turned fan and it also has ELECTRIC on the buck tag. Would that explain that code or does other data contradict it?
Yes, I see the tilt code on the build sheet now.
OK, so I'm no help at all. Thanks for all the info though FoxChassis.
For the hood / hood scoop codes the 83 CC has an 02, the 85 vert has an 06, and the 86 vert has an 02 - none or them had a hood scoop from the factory (which makes it strange to me that all three don't have the same code).
If ELECTRIC became EL then it's probably not for an electric fan since my 85 has the EL but it has a belt driven fan.

I doubt this, but on another site I found that DF .... stands for the first year the body style was used on THAT car, and (D) 4th letter in alphabet 0r 84 and the F stands for FORD product. Could suchbe right ?????

That is what I was saying, however, after double checking it today in the daylight (instead of in the dark with a flashlight) I didn't see it correctly. All 3 cars have an 02 for the hood code, the 85 does not have an 06 like I thought initially.FoxChassis wrote:Are you sure you're looking at the right two-digit number on the '85 tag? I know the first one (after AC, if so equipped) will be '06'. Are you saying you have '06' twice, once on two separate lines?

Ford didn't start putting putting the model year on the Buck Tag until late '87 or '88. And the "D" was on tags long before the 1984 model year.Sandy wrote:I doubt this, but on another site I found that DF .... stands for the first year the body style was used on THAT car, and (D) 4th letter in alphabet 0r 84 and the F stands for FORD product. For "F" to be a Ford product on a Mercury tag...well...LOL.
Whatever 'site you found that explanation on is realllly reaching.

That was it. Someone asked about DF on that plate and that was the only reply.

The first couple of things that I thought of were, DF - "DUAL FRAMES", as in "front & rear" license plate brackets, ST - "STANDARD TINT", as in regular tinted glass, or ST - "spare tire". Common codes to everyones buck tags and these would be common options also on everyones cars. Does that theory hold up to your cross referencing all the buck tags?FoxChassis wrote:For some of them I have no addittional info. For others, well, it's a bit thin, for a number of reasons out of my control. It's rare to get much more info than what is already covered by the Buck Tag or the VC Label.

The luggage rack was standard equipment on '86-'93 Mustang convertibles. As far as I'm aware it was not standard or optional from the factory (dealer-installed equipment doesn't count) on any other model or in any other model year.bosscar wrote:Just an idea.
Could NLR be "no luggage rack"?
Luggage rack is actually listed on my build sheet as one of the dozens of different items on it. Most cars wouldn't have one. Maybe thats why most cars say NLR on the buck tag.
