"86 Capri on Ebay

Post by capri50asc »

Everybody following this: Go to Ebay: Go to advanced search and click on seller : Type in STANFAIRLANE and Click on the feedback number, Number one YOU LEFT Negative feedback for him! and look at the SPEEDOMETER that was sold under STANFAIRLANE right after he sold the Capri . Is this strange or not. STANFAIRLANE is a train seller. I did my homework on this car. I passed on it. To my damage ,Funny miles, strange setting, no a/c, no locks, no cruise, I LOVE my two '86 Capri's. Hands down!!!!!!!!!

Case Closed! The facts are out

Ok 2000miles RS. I drove up to my local Walmart with my seeing eye dog (he likes to pick things out at the store) We picked out a very nice
pair of designer frame eye glasses ( extra strong) So I can see better. When we got home and I decided to take you up on your offer for me to send photos of my 1986 Capri 5.0L to this web site and the FEP. My Capri
is all original with a few little extras that make it fun to drive. I have also added this to the "other" section of this site.

Same here. Good to speak with you again. I know what you mean. I did like helping folks over there but I'm not going to post where I'm constantly getting beaten up over topics some don't have first hand knowledge about but insist they do.

One thing is for sure. This car we're looking at here is really bad news...the kiss of death. Somebody needs to restore it so it can be properly stored and have the mileage rolled back legally so people can enjoy it for its authenticity. Even though it has lots of miles, it still has the original parts. There's nothing worse for upcoming collectors who see these kinds of things going on in the four-eyed world. It certainly makes them think twice about buying low mile survivors at premium prices. But this is certainly nothing new. Just ask the Shelby collectors. They can tell you a story or two.

That 85 Mustang GT we saw about a year ago with 100 miles was in the same boat as this one. Someone was dumb enough to pay $18k for a "show car" with a dirty engine bay, missing pieces, chrome antenna, discolored horn pad, and mismatched paint. It looked bad enough in the eBay photos. Imagine what it looked like up close. Yep, that one was never registered either. Noticing a pattern? I guess old habits from the 60's muscle era die hard for these baby boomer bamboozlers who are offloading their "low-mileage gems" onto unsuspecting buyers. :-$

Talk to you soon.

Please correct me if I'm wrong ('cause I likely am) - wouldn't a Certified Calibration speedo have come out of an SSP car? With this being a standard production 5.0, it wouldn't have had that type of 140 speedo, would it?

Yes, Certified Calibration speedometers were only in Special Service Package Mustangs. But even "civilian" 5.0L Capris and Mustangs didn't have the 'regular' 140 speedos unless they were special ordered and installed by the factory or dealer. That speedo was a Ford Motorsport item but didn't have such a logo like the '82 and earlier or '87 and later units did. Ford was allowed to put speedos in civilian cars that read higher than 85 MPH (the federal limit ended in '82) but they chose not to until '89.

Can we get back to the bezels. My mclaren coupe has chrome bezels. The only person to change anything on my car was the previous owner. He said he never touched the interior. Anyone else have chrome on their coupe?

My bought NEW 1986 Capri came with chrome.

I loved those 2.3 I had a beater 86 stang that I drove for 3 years with no fan as long as it was moving it would not over heat.

Wish I could find another clean 86 4cyl capri

Take a look through the Coupe albums, you'll see some asc's with chrome and some with black. Seems hit or miss, so either should be correct.

Black/chrome

Post by Kentennis »

When I got my '86 Vert the drivers door bezel for the power lock had been tightened down too much and broke the bezel at the screw hole so it was loose. I went to Hank and got a replacement. The replacement was worn in spots and under the black is chrome. Unfortunately I had the bezel on the freezer we keep in the garage and it fell down behind the freezer. So, until we empty and defrost the freezer, I can't put it on. However a small piece of black rubber, used as a washer, allows the bezel to remain firmly in place and is unnoticeable until I retrieve the unbroken one!

That's one advantage of having Hank 22 miles away, I can just drive over.

asc/McLaren with black handles, bezels and PW switches.

Something tells me that chrome was correct for GS & RS and that
McLaren specfied black (from the Mustsang SVO) for the McLarens
but on some cars the assembly line workers "forgot" or they were not on line at the time they were needed.
