Mine has chrome and black. I assume it's original, as the interior seems untouched.

Line workers could not have made THAT many mistakes.
Black on my ascMcLaren and I called the guy that works at the dealership that I bought mine at ... I called him yesterday --- and his 1986 asc/McLaren (full package -Not a EuroCoupe--- says his is exactly like mine.

Mine:
Flat Black, as on SVO 'Stangs:

Power window switch(s) and switch button FRAMES
Power door Lock buttons and Power Door Lock button Frames

Both Door Handles and respective Frames.

The 2 door panel mounted door locks that you can push down/up manually.
(the way you locked the doors pre- pre power door locks.

The guy at the dealership's car is 100% identical to mine
(Charcoal Grey body BUT with SILVER stripes/decals/logos
but it's a 5-speed stick and has a T-Top from factory
It is bone stock has a few door dings, otherwise it;s mint.

he has been there 27 years !!!!!!!!!!!!! Technician began at age 22 he is 49. He also agrees with me that the worst car L-M made were the
1997-1999 Lincoln MARKS. He said that those cars allowed him to make double payments on his mortgage for several years/[/b]

What number car is his? It must look awesome and must be a one of one. That color combo with tops. SWEEEET! I have only heard of 3 or 4 with the chrome bezels. Thats a pretty low number.

His wheels are the silver, to match the decals/stripes. I kinda like my orange rims better - but they would not be a good match on his, considering the silver decals. I did not ask his Dash Plaque # - I seem to faintly recall it is in the 80(s). It is bone stock. like mine. ASadly a few door dings, from @$$ oles.

Would the bezel change have been done by the Ford line workers, or would it have been done by asc? I could see how the 'forgetfulness' would be more prevalent at asc than at Ford.

No No lines workers made no such decessions. Any decessions would come from Ford or ASC, most likely FORD. FORD is (was THE customer)!!!

You are absolutely correct.

Ford shipped the cars to ASC as is. ASC installed the bezels, along with your other usual ASC goodies (horn pad, shifter, badging, trim, etc). There weren't enough made to really get a sense of consistency.

The seats were ordered with the particular trim code directly from Ford. Other than that ASC made the modifications, much like Roush does today. Interesting enough, the bubble hatch was designed by Roush Racing back in 83 for the SCCA class. Personally I feel these bubble hatches along with the rear end in general are what killed the Capri line.

If any Capri's came with black bezels, they were most likely swapped out at the dealers. Unlike fog lamp covers which were shipped from Belgium, Ford had all the suppliers they needed to make bezels, so there would be no reason why they would switch them over, even in 1986 at the end of production.

What exactly are you referring to? I'm confused.

The switch-gear of PW & PDL switches (and dfames) were installed by FoMoCo.

Having been in the car business for "only 28 years" ~ There is somethng that those in the business know about & "outsiders" never heard of.

That name is "Running Change" - meaning just what it says. For some time frame a certian part (or parts) were used for a specific detail. For many many reasons, never told to RETAIL end of it all, a change in a part (or parts) will take place. Sometimes "Joe Factory" will inform "Dennis Dealer" and sometimes they will not.
I believe that is what took place concerning the bezels & switch gear.
Things like bezels & frames and flat black or chrome would fall into the "Don't inform nor mention it."

Sandy, those pink delivery sheets we have...the one for the coupe shows that a bezel had to be replaced since it was not black.

That sheet was seen by the dealer, right? If so, then the car had to leave Ford mismatched...then leave asc mismatched. Seems odd.

I am pretty sure my car came mismatched as well. But it's hard to say what was changed on my car. Both bezels are black now.

Be careful Sandy he may state the miles are incorrect on your 86 ASC if you don't watch it :bouncehappy:
