Wood

Post by svo413 »

My 85 (Feb 85 Ford build date) had all of the wood painted black. A sloppy after market job at that. The cluster had screws but you could tell they we not original as one went thru the cluster lens. The passenger side had none. The bezels also had the SVO flocking under the wood.

I suspect the self adhesive wood came loose over time and the only fix was screws. My guess, the 86s started with screws. I don't recall the old wood to be 1/4 " think around the cluster. I don't recall the replacement set I bought to be that thick either. I'm thinking 1/8" or less. Now the trim around the display is thick.

So.. the wood in my 85 is light ASH woood and is about 1/16 inch thick and was glued. It sounds like some cars got pecan wood (much darker) that was screwed in place and was much thicker.. almost 1/4 inch. Sounds like maybe another vender problem like the radios.

does anyone know what kind of glue to use to reinstall the would panel?

Maybe it was replacement wood? The Kit you could by from Hank is glued if I'm not mistaken.
