When was the first time you saw an ASC car?
That was the first time I had seen (or heard of) one was August 1999 when I went to look at an '89 for sale. I brought a friend back to make sure I wasn't blind with love. It passed his test so I bought it. The wife said no, since we had 3 children then. I had to have it.

I was 20. when it came the time I could afford a new car, I was forced to take the Ford model because the Merc was no longer available.

The first time I saw one was in July of '86 - it was a blue Coupe parked in the Ford Car Corral at Brainerd International Raceway. I still have the pic I took. I was there to cheer on the Roush Capris that were kicking butt in the SCCA Trans Am at the time.
I had also been to BIR watching those same Capris the year before - in July of '85. In Aug. '85 I bought my Crimson Cat and with the Roush cars on my mind I had been thinking that what the bubbleback CC really needed was a decent rear spoiler - something along the lines of the Porsche 944 (wow those cars were similar - flared fenders, bubble window, spoiler). I even drew one out on the cover of a Capri brochure. Then I happened across the BFG ad in a magazine. There was the spoiler I wanted!! And I thought the ground effects looked 'just right' too. So I tracked down asc and ordered the spoiler, and then a few months later the air dam, skirts, and valance for my CC. That was in April and Aug of '86, just before and after I saw the Coupe at BIR.
Strangely, I have no recollection at all of the first time I saw a vert, but I owned two of those before a Coupe.

Spring 87, i worked at a tire store & a 86 blue/orange coupe came in for tires.
all of the guys at the shop came out to look at it. everyone (but me & another kid) stated "I dont like the hatch!"

It was early 1994. My dad was in the used car business at the time and he came home telling me about an 86 ascMcLaren Capri on the showroom floor at the LM dealership he used to buy cars at. I said I had only heard about the 2 seater Mustang verts so it sparked my interest. He said the interior was orange and the car had orange wheels. Now I'm thinking UGLY! (Obviously his description was NOT accurate)
Well, the next day we went down to pick up another car he bought there and when I walked in I said out loud "I'd take it." - lol.
We did end up buying it but to clean up and resell as we had some contacts in the business that did really well with this sort of stuff...
Needless to say the drive home was awesome (for me of course) - and several months later I decided to keep her for myself! lol.
So yeah 17 years ago! WOW.

The first one I saw was summer of 92, at Deep Creek Lake. Deep Creek was just starting to grow then, and I had just graduated high school. I believe it was a Silver ext, blue int (88?) mustang vert.
The first one I drove..... I bought.....
I've asked this before, but.... This car has the shortest first gear ever. Anyone else experience this phenom?

I wish blue jeans, old cars, and boots would go out of style.

Spring 1985 - I was working as a lot attendant for a Seattle area Subaru dealer and was asked to retreive a car from the local auto auction. While I was waiting for the El Camino to be brought out front, I noticed a dark blue Capri with orange wheels and stripes pull into parking lot. I owned a 79 Mustang at the time and was well aware of Capri's which is why I was interested in it. After the driver walked into the office I went up to the car to get a closer look. The one thing that I remember from the car, other than the colors, was the tail light covers. I had never seen a car with them before and it stuck with me. So much so, than when I bought a Mustang coupe in 1992, I investigated how to install a Capri bumper and tail light and tried to find out where to get the covers from.

Sandy told me but I forgot, that there was an issue shipping cars past the Mississippi. After a certain year they were able to, and I thought that was after the Capris. So someone would have had to import that Capri you saw.mustang marty wrote:Spring 1985 - I was working as a lot attendant for a Seattle area Subaru dealer and was asked to retreive a car from the local auto auction. Edit: Found it. 1986 was the first year ascMcLarens could be obtained on the west coast. So you must have seen one of the 86's.
