Graphic Radio Equalizer

Post by CSMESP »

Folks I need some help. I picked up aGraphic Equalizer for my OEM Radio (87). I pulled my AMP out, this Equalizer doesn't come close to marring up. The number on it is F1ZF-18T803-AA. I found one just like it from the UK and the guy wanted 999 British Lbs for it. Had to be a joke.... I have searched all sites and cant't match it to a radio or under the dash amp. It is Ford and marked made in Brazil. Can anyone tell me if any of the McLarens had one of these , CSMESP

those eq's were very rare, even when new.
only produced for 1987 & early 88's.
& it was an option that not too many chose.

That EQ has a 1991 engineering number on it.

Yes, I have seen only like 2 or 3 with it, again, as stated, in 1987s & 1988s. I am sure at that time it was terminated. I would suggest calling ASC in Michigan and try to get to a person there. They would know. Mike Huehn is a good name, but....PLEASE... don't use MY name as a referal, Okay? !!!
Did you check with our parts man in Florada ???? Henry Huisman.... could probably fetch one for you.
IF your car is a 89/90 be aware...it may NOT fit !! Ask Henry !!

I'm guessing the EQ is not for a mustang.

Got a picture of your eq?

I think it is, because it fits into that cavity, just south of the stereo as if it was designed only for that car. It's a perfect fit ! Nothing universal 'bout it's appearance.

I'm curious how you know this since I see no pics of anything.

The only clue I see is an engineering part number. If you guys say the Mustang's EQ was a 2 year only part for 87/88, then a 1991 engineering number makes this EQ very unlikely to fit a Mustang.

Remember Probe GTs had EQs in them too. Possibly even an Escort GT. All three of these cars had similar interiors.

"I'm curious how you know this since I see no pics of anything"

I have seen 2 ascMcLaren Mustangs (1987 and 1988) WITH IT ~~

Don't go saying "but Sandy said...." ANYBODY, cause I very well could be wrong........ But push-to shove..... I think it was a FoMoCo part
that was installed in some Lincoln Mark 8s in the 97/98 Marks.

Why?????????? Because I had a friend with a 1997 Mark 8 and it had one that looked identical to the 2 that I saw in those 2 McLarens.

If 'ya want, I'll make a phone call or 2, this evening.

I tossed about ordering 2 for my 'Verts....but....'ya know me.....
it's all gotta be 100% original AND stock, and I knew it was never on any 1989s nor 1990s. SandyStocker.....Remember ?

the eq' were options on 87 & 88 stock mustangs.
dropped early on in 88 production run. just like the t-tops.
not sure if the same eq was carried over to ASC's.

Eg radios are differant than non-eq radios.
The eq will not just plug into a standard radio. Eq radios do not have tone controls nor fader. The radio only has a balance control on it.

You need both radio and eg to make it work. If I remember right the amp was built into the eq.

They where used in the mustang, tbird, aerostar and maybe probe.

I know for a fact the 94-95 Probe GTs had factory EQs.

I ordered my 96 Probe GT new and they dropped the option. I was so pissed. Got every option except leather.

Mustang graphic equalizer = '87-'88*, '91-'92

*The 1989 Ford Car Fact Book and Ford Fleet Differences book both list the graphic equalizer as an option. Neither the Mustang Red Book nor the Fox-Body Mustang Recognition Guide show the graphic equalizer in the options list.
