Post by Kendal Coker »

I found this on the side of the raod at a used car lot cal Po Boys Used Cars in Boaz Alabama on Hy 431 256-593-7630

1985 Gray Capri convertible 5.0 efi auto. #269. Car is in really good shape, didnt see any rust. It had a good top and interior was pretty nice. The driver seat had a cover over it so it may have had a good bit of wear. He was asking $6000

This one was charcoal grey with a black top. It was locked and had the for sale sign over the vin number or I would have gotten that. The 269 was on the passenger side behind the door.

repaint maybe?

85's came in three colors white-black-tan

86's came in silver not grey

silver with black = 1 of 17

The weird thing is number --- total for 86 was 245 --- total for 85 was 257

so how was this car numbered 269?

If so are the numbers we have wrong?
Is this the last capri convert built?

The numbers do not match up to those built in 85' or 86'. I have #322 for my 85' vert. Sandy has posted information on the numbering many times and it is very confusing.

I would guess it is a REPLACEMENT dash plaque. Over & over & over this is what happens:
Top down, hot & humid & glue gives way and plaque falls down on car's floor.
2 things happen. #1. Forward motion, drives the plaque backward and under the passenger seat, where it retires.... until (#2) car goes thru a car wash and vacuium operator sucks the plaque up & into the vacuum. Goodbye Plaque.......

I wonder if the 85 vert numbers didn't pick up where the 84s left off; similar to what was done for 87& 88 and 89 and 90. Granted that doesn't explain #322 for an 85, but it gets does get close at 307 (50 + 257).

I am inclined to believe that the plaque numbering scheme included the coupes even though the coupe did not recieve a plaque. With this in mind there were 60 (10 hb + 50 verts) in 1984 plus 407 in 1985 (257 verts + 150 hb) for a total of 467 units by the end of the 1985 prodution year. I have 322 and know this is the original number from my father's purchase off the lot. It is located on the passenger side in front of the rear wheel well and did not fall off the glove compartment door...
