Friend told me a 88 was on craigslist for 3500.00. 65k miles, auto, but does have a salvage title. I called the guy just to take a look at the car. I guess he sold a 70's datsun z car and got the asc as a partial trade. He just wanted to get rid of it because he knew nothing about it and its not family friendly. So I went to look at it and like any good buyer played dumb. I then asked if I could put the top down, he said "good luck figuring that out". I guess he couldn't figure it out. So I put it down in the million plus step process. He looked at me and said, " you own one of these dont you?". So I told him about my 88 and what these cars are and they SHOULDN'T be given to 17 year old kids that want to put turbos and underglows on them. I inspected the damage that warranted the salvage title and it was just a 10mph or so hit to the front right apron. No other damage, doors still opened and closed right, hood needs aligning. He told me the lowest he would go is 2500.00. I decided that with the salvage title that is too much due to the "high mileage" and so other factors.
Well he called me about a week later and said 1200 bucks and its yours. Can you guess how fast I got to his house?
So its a 88, AOD, blue interior( Seats are covered but are still nice for mileage, has early style console, black top but is black. ( Production sheets dont show this combo so I need to pull a sill plate off and do some research. Whoever did the color change though did a great job. I then looked at the receipts. Now the guy before him paid to have all this done at a shop so I can discount 50% for labor but here are some things that have been done in the last 18 months. I pulled the spoiler off due to the outer two studs breaking off ( didn't want to lose it on the freeway_
New black top
Full JVC sound system with subs
New high torque starter
full tune up with Motorcraft parts
