Suspension too stiff

Post by roaky81 »

My 88 is way too stiff for the local crappy roads. Anyone replace the springs with original LS 5.0 for a smoother ride? I won't be threading the needle with this car, so sport handling is not needed. I'm more interested in a fun comfortable ride.
I am dismayed at the lack of quality ASC/McLaren used when doing this car. Rear spoiler anchor bolts have pulled out, hinge pins for convertible top need to be redone, 3rd brake light mounted very hoaky, etc. But there is no beating the style points this Mustang gets with the top up or down! I've put on new 5 spoke rims which really look great on this car.

My spoiler was doing the same thing. I was able to repair it 3 years ago and hasnt been an issue since.

Your 88 should have factory Ford Springs. If it is lowered that was done by one of the owners.

Springs

I always though the later cars were lowered by ASC with the Motorsport springs like my 85. Here are numbers from my cars, all stock. Measured at the wheel well.

88 ASC Front 26.5" Rear 26.3875"
89 LX vert. 26.75 26.875" Bilstein shocks in rear
85 ASC 26.25 25.75

The 88 seems to be lowered from ASC.
