It appears that the original 89 ascMclaren tires were P225/60VR15. Is the speed rating of V important or is an H rating acceptable?

If you plan to travel at under 130 MPH, yes, H-Rated are just fine.

Just put the top down and you will think you are doing 150 mph when you just hit 85.

It's hard to find high end tires now in 15". Most 15" tires are now daily driver quality if you can find them.
