Gas cap retaining strap attachment?

Post by ChuckG »

Okay, car came with an aftermarket fuel cap with no strap. Got an NOS Mororcraft cap with the dummy cord. Swap probably necessary because I'm probably the guy they designed the dummy cord for in the first place.

To what do I attach the cord? Which nut? Photos would be helpful.

Just because I filled up last night. The strap attaches in the bottom two holes. So the cap will flip open in the 6 o-clock position. Can send you a photo later if needed

Gas cap

Post by svo413 »

The original cap had a flat strap which split and then connected to 2 screws. The later replacements had a round plastic strap that connected to 1 screw around the filler neck.

Original caps were gray and later replacements were black. I did see replacement straps at one time but they were for trucks. A nice original gas cap cap go for $100 these days.

Yeah, not a $100 to me. I can do without and keep looking at swap meets.

Here's what NPD sells.

This has a broken strap but it was original and you can see the orientation.

Scored one for $40. Not worth the grief to send anyone digging for that.

Also, are these the correct clamps for my hoses? How about what I need for the heater flex hoses for the air cleaner?
