I have an 86 asc McLaren with a 3 wire pull down. I want to convert it over to a 2 wire pull down. There are 3 wires going into the plug that goes into the pull down Red, purple, and black. Someone labeled the wires as Red - 2 volt all the time, Purple - 2 volt ignition switch on, black - not labeled.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might be missing the switch.

One of the spare parts that came with my car when I bought it was a replacement switch assembly for the tonneau cover pull down motor. Little did I know the whole assembly was laying in the trunk unassembled. I haven't tracked down the motor yet but the switch is a Cadillac part number 16603372. Price was $15.36 in 1998. I imagine the pull down motor is from the same Cadillac car.
