Lets say the car is NEARLY 100% original. NO bolt on mods save for an exhaust change, no aftermarket radio (should have the asc alpine 7272), no butchered doors and door panels, NO RUST, NO ACCIDENT DAMAGE, NO missing radar detector etc etc...a very very good car needing detailing but no major restoration....I would place it at $8k....thats probably tip top condition. There is a 1986 on www.ascmclaren.com that is absolutely IMMACULATE (save for mysterious door panels) for $12k. This car looks to be below that at least.

Now if the interior has been played with, if it has some rust, maybe a minor accident, the engine has been modified by an "amateur" then I feel the price will drop significantly...$4-$6k.

The value of the car seriously depends on how much of the asc stuff remains. Ground effects are worth $1000+, radar detector = $250, radio = $150, foglights = $300, wheels = $400 each, steering wheel = $500, etc etc if you have to get stuff from www.ascmclaren.com. The fact that from the outside, it looks like the car needs NOTHING then I would say it would have to be worth at LEAST $4k....I couldn't imagine the interior or undercarriage is going to show any major surprises based on the exterior so maybe the bottom line is $5k-7k.

Do I sound in the ballpark? Well, I hope we can get some more pictures soon...

How do you guy's know it's a 86 ?
No engine shot, I can't see the third brake light either.
Looks like it's missing a few misc parts too.
Does the driver side rocker moulding appear warppped or damaged ?

Its not blue or white. 85s were only blue or white.

Warping is "normal" for original side panels like that. My side skirts were original pieces and they warped about like those are. I always thought they were supposed to be that way to mimic the BMW cars. In reality they are supposed to be straight.

What pieces is it missing? I see missing headlight/tailight covers. But these are easily broken. The story goes that some cars had the front covers broken at the dealer or during their first servicing. If you do not push the hood down gently, you simply smash the covers to pieces.

The car has sat out in the sun for at least some time. The windshield blue strip at the top has faded to yellow and the wheels are not bright orange anymore. So maybe on very close inspection it will not look as good as it does at 50 feet.

Like Mike made mention of, from the front, the chrome ascMcLaren in the grille bars. 1984 & 85 had chrome "mercury" in that place. At the rear - of course - the center mounted stop light. Black, (I believe this car is) and Sandy's Smoke Charcoal Gray & Platinum Silver were exclusively 1986 property. Lastly, the 1986 cars did not have the ascMcLaren decal logo on the front "blister bump" of the hood (thusly the small ascMcLaren chrome emblem IN the grille area). I, along with many others liked the decal and ordered one & put it on the hood in the correct place. So..... you really cannot go by that.

Most all of the ascMcLaren EXTERIOR pieces seem to be placed in areas highly suseptible to breakage. Front air dams cracked & busted off, cracked and broken fog lites, side skirts damaged and rear spoilers cracked and/or chipped.
side venta ports black plastic triangle plugs fallen off and long gone.
Side rear window blackouts scratched badly. Headlight covers cracked, chipped or gone. Taillight covers scratched and/or cracked.

One really has to take super care and caution with these cars, or they deteriorate super fast !!

Yeah I got brand new side skirts from Hank and mine are slightly warped...not sure there is much one can do about that...

ALSO, my 86 says Mercury on the front not ascMcLaren...anyone have a close up pic of what the 86 grill badging should look like?

From what I'm reading this (my car) is incorrect?? :(

Also, by looking at the pictures on page 1 it appears to say AscMcLaren on the grill IMO...

You can get the tag for the grill from hank. It just sticks over the "MERCURY" badge and probably fell off.

The previous owner probably added the "ascMcLaren" to your hood like Sandy mentioned people often did.

If you ask hank, you can get little "angle iron" strips for the side skirts. You rivet them on the underside and it will remove the warping. I believe these can only be done to the NEW repro style ones or you're going to bust up the hard plastic originals.

These angled metal strips require no modification of the side skirts. My brother installed them on the 8 year old repros I bought from Hank and they fit fine. The skirts were off the car at the time and were not painted.

To be110% correct, NO...no ascMcLareen logo on hood. But so many owners have put it on their '86s, it has abount become accepted....as correct.
