Looks to be in nice shape.

I think the REAR SPEAKER COVERS ARE STOCK!!! They are rectangular!

88 Bird, you do GREAT work & thanks from all of us!! That's first and important!

Onto the car....'ya, she looks real good to me, too. Not tampered with badly at all. In checking production records VIN 609475 was indeed originally "Raven Black" in paint !! She was recieved BY ascMcLaren on Feb. 6th '86 and was converted into an ascMcLaren on Feb. 8th '86 and was shipped out on Feb. 10th '86. She is a full packaged ascMcLaren and the Pop-Up sunroof was original from FoMoCo. It was originally a 5-Speed car so it hasn't been converted. The decals, logos, and stripe-work were originally as you see it, in "Popsicle Orange" ~ They didn't list Power Door Locks/Remote Hatch Release, so I can't tell on that.

It is one of very very few in Raven Black WITH the Popsicle Orange decals, as the "Suggested" {from ascMcLaren} tapework with the Raven Black was the "Platinum Silver Metallic" tapework, declas, logos.
Somewhere in the past, I believe that I saw that only 1 car (this car) was made in that combination. However, now that I wanna go back & find that info, I can't seem to locate it ~ just to verify for myself.

The "Recomended" combos follow:
Raven Black >>>>>> Decals in Platinum Silver
Oxford White >>>>>> Decals in Popsicle Orange
Smoke Charcoal Grey > Decals in Popsicle Orange
Midnight Navy Blue >>> Decals in Popsicle Orange
Platinum Silver >>>>> Decals in Raven Black.

Now, I have seen all of the above, PLUS:-
Raven Black with Popsicle Orange
Oxford White with Black *AND* with Platinum Silver
Smoke Charcoal Grey with both BLACK (on this site!) and with Platinum Silver
Midnight Navy Blue with Platinum Silver

So, I have seen at least 1 of each of these in picture and 2 in Smoke Charcoal Gray with Platinum Silver
and 2 in Oxford White with Black.
But...... All the rest that I've seen over the 20 past years were in one of the recomended color schemes. The "off color" schemes are exceptionally rare. When I get more time I will continue to dig to see if I can find where I saw that there was but 1 like this made.

The fog lites are OEM and the reason for THAT steering wheel is probably because it has Cruise Control !! (They didn't get the ascMcLaren Wheel !)

88 Bird, again thanks for your efforts in our behalf, and stick around ! :D

to help you out some more it does have the electric hatch pop and gas door pop and power locks and cruise control...... WOW sandy u can tell all that from just the VIN#?... note to self never give sandy my SSN.....

and just to give ya'll some background the reason i decided to go out of my way for this car is because i know how rare some cars are.... i mainly look for turbo coupes (my car of choice) and SVO's and capri rs's as i hate to see them parted out or even crushed.....

I will be your eyes & ears for Turbo Coupes in New Jersey.

Question: I know the T-Bird Turbo Coupes moderately well,
but I always wondered didn't Mercury have a version of their
own on the Cougar? Wasn't there a Cougar Turbo Coupe as
well? I seem to recall seeing a couple at my dealer.

No, Bird, there are no codes for those options in the VIN. (I'm good - not THAT good :D )

I said that I could NOT tell IF it had the Pwr. Locks/Hatch/Fuel Door release. Regarding the Cruise, the cars ordered withOUT cruise control got a REAL leather wrapped rim, AND a special center horn pad, like that on the 'Stang SVO, 'ya, that style!! The cars ordered with CruiseControl recieved the stock Capri steering wheel (as you saw) a 2-spoke with the Cougar head in the center, & it was vinyl wrapped, I believe.

Pictured IN the ascMcLaren brochure was the unique wheel for car w/out CC. In a dealer memo FROM ascMcLaren was a suggestion that inventory units should be ordered with OUT CC & if a buyer was ordering a car, and selected CC they shoud be told that they will not get the pictured steering wheel, but rather the stock wheel.

So, of course from your description I could tell it had CC.
It has every option except 4-speed automatic transmission and the T-Tops, and of course you could not have BOTH the pop up sun roof AND the T-Tops, so..it has everything x-cept the Automatic.

BTW, the rims are suppossed to be matching Orange. Someone didn't like that and seemingly had the paint removed, because the black accents are also removed.

This link will show you detail of what the rims are supposed to look like and a good look at the steering wheel. It's the brochure on the car you saw.

well about as far north as i have been to get a turbo coupe is south carolina.... but hey who knows i guess if it is a heck of a deal i might just have to go...... ya the mercury cougar was the xr7 i believe that was mainly an automatic car as i recall..... needless to say it was a pig compaired to an svo or a even the heavy turbocoupe 5-speed..... my favorate bodystyle of the t/c is the 87-88 years..... i'll have to post up some pics when i get a chance of mine..... it's an 88 all power 5-speed car, leather whole 9 yards...... i believe the only thing not on my car that was an option is the sunroof and power passenger seat..... but for $500 i won't complain.... drove it on the trailer and then after getting it home put a fresh battery on it and drove it 2 weeks straight without a hitch..... i always find myself to be in the right place at the right time.....

on the cc, pl, hatch pop, i couldn't tell if u understood me..... it does have those.... i figured u couldn't get that from the VIN..... i didn't think about taking pics of those switches and buttons......

also do you think it is worth what she is asking for it.....$6500? if so is it worth more in your opinion?

It's definately worth the $ 6,500. Seriously, I have to phycically get intimate with it  to see how much more, but if the mileage is legit at 17 thou....it's worth MoRe !

If it's any guideline at all, mine has 646 documented miles, is 100% pristine, as in "Day-1" is DashPlaque # 109 of 115, and has never been touched. There are no scratchs, door dings>> NOTHING << it's absolutley pristine. Noi Cruise, as I wanted the SVO wheel, and no Sun Roof or T-Tops as I was afraid of wind noise and leaks. I have Pwr. Locks, Hatch & Fuel door. She is also an Automatic with the 3.08:1 gears.
I was offerred $20,000 for it at a car show. I actually paid $15,500. new. Obviously she is not 4-Sale. She is 1 of 17 made like her. It has the correct Radar as does that Black car, and the factory OEM (ascMcLaren) Alpine 7272 Stereo/Cassette with the Kenwood speakers.

Here are pics for you.....

I have to agree. For $6500 you get the WHOLE deal minus the radio (which can be found). It looks like it was not beaten or trashed in any way and ALL the parts are there.

A very "gentle" restoration might be all that is needed to get her back up and looking shiny new again. If the 17k miles is right then WOW!

By the looks of the unfaded gauge cluster, I would say that it may be the correct mileage!

Tifton, Georgia. He has had the car for 2 years 4-Sale! Me thinks he'd take less ! I was gonna buy it, but I took my 7,327 mile Silver Anniversary one from the New Hampshire Auto Museum, instead. (yes, it's mint)!!
