A truly nice, unmolested unit 4-sale. LOOK AT IT
Sandy,
Yeah but, with less than 17K miles? I like the car, don't get me wrong. And as soon as I get that damn alarm out of it I'll be even more happy. And once it gets a new rug, sill plates, an undrilled console, cleaned out instrument cluster with new lens, a resprayed engine compartment, a stock stereo (I plan on swapping out a Ford CD and cassette system depending on the show) and some paint work fixed, I'll be even more happy. Then some very subtle (and reversible) drivetrain and suspension mods and we'll have a cruiser that can't be beat.
The only problem now is deciding if I want to put it on collector's insurance or not.

Go with GRUNDY ! You can insure it for $18,000 for $249.00 @ yr, with UNlimited mileage. I have my 3 with them for $750.00 @ year & have been very satisfied with them. www.grundy.com (I think) or google it to Grundy Collector Car Insurance. They are in Pa, just over the NJ line. Have a great website, too. Check it out. They recognize the car. Regular insurance in NJ will be around $ 2,000 a yr. and they will view it as the title says, a 1990 Mustang LX V-8 2-Dr sedan. In case of total loss, you'll get like $3,800. Hey, it's a 16-year old Ford !!

Sandy,
I have my 93 SVT Cobra on a Parish policy. It limits mileage to 2.5K or 3K a year, forget which. I am surprised Grundy has unlimited mileage. I will have to check them out. Of course, if you have an unlimited mileage policy, you can't get "collectible" car status in NJ. ANd I really like not having to watch the &&*%^%^ at DMV try to climb over my roll cage to put the car through inspection. The last time I had to do it, they got very upset when it failed emissions the first time around, then with a twist of the Crane advance knob I passed with flying colors. They kept threatening me with failure anyway so I'd have to go to Trenton to the "ref station". Now, I just prove that the odometer works and I'm golden.

I sold the Mark VIII in April of 2003. It lives in Florida now. I sold it to buy buy the above 2003 Town Car Limited. We have 6 cars, which would include our son's very special 2001 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4x4 "Final-500" Edition, Two 1990 ascMcLaren Mustang 2-Seat Roadsters, a 1986 ascMcLaren Mercury Capri Coupe, my 1993 one-of-one Cadillac Sixty Special, & the above T.C.
I don't "do" regular cars, everyone is ultra rare or something special or a "1 off" The Mark VIII was a "Collector's~Edition" one of the last Marks' and prior I had a Mark VII (7) (1986) in special order paint = Playboy Pink, so painted at the factory, the only Lincoln so made. It was very recently on e-bay 4-Sale. It too, is now down in Florida. Perhaps you sawit on e-bay.
2 live at home, 1 down at college, and 3 in rental storage garages. Here's the link to the Playboy Pink Mark 7 I owned it for 7 years, the next owner owned it for 12 years. The current mileage is 18,000 !! Strictly a show car !

Sandy,
You're lucky the person doing your inspection for the collectible status either doesn't know his job or doesn't care or both. The collectible status in NJ is mileage limited, and also demands a mileage limited insurance policy. As I was the first at the Kilmer facility in Middlesex county to go for collectible status, I got the once over. I read the rules right along with the three (!) inspectors who wanted to make sure all the "I"'s were crossed and "T"'s dotted.
So, where do you go for inspections? Looks like I may have to go there as well. Although the last time I had the CObra renewed, they really didn't care if the speedometer worked. They just wanted to slap the decal on and go back to their coffee.

All they have to have is a cheap calculator. As you can see above, the Caddy has 9,841 miles on her. Her registration shows she's a 1993, so she is 12 years old ! 9,841 divided by 12 = 820 miles per year. I go to Montclair, NJ, back door, when the guy has to go for a 1 mile ride with me to see the odo flip, to prove it's connected. Since my month to do this is September, he always manages to bring a pile of dirt/mud/leaves into the car, but of course, the white mats are in the trunk, and there are brown paper supermarket bags on the front floor, driver & passenger side.
New Jersey has a way of massively complicating things made easy in Vermont &/or Rhode Island
What are you worried about? 17,000 miles in 17 years ? DUH ! Smells like 1,000 miles a year !
Insure the car with GRUNDY, bring your GRUNDY insurance card with you to M.V. Inspection after obtaining the correct forms at a MV office, fill tham out, bring your driver license and valid registration, make sure you got both plates affixed to the car & go to MV inspection. They don't usually ask many questions. Go when the are busy, end of the month, on a Saturday !

Sandy,
Like I said, my CObra has been under collector inspection for about 4 years now. Somehow I think a race car with full cage, harnesses and Sparco seats probably makes me more of a person to mess with than a "proper" gentleman driving a Caddy.

how does NJ collector status work? Do you still need emissions?
In PA, if you drive any regular car under 5000 miles a year, the car is automatically exempt and you will get an 'exempt sticker' on the windshield.
There are several specialty plates. My 84 has 'collectible vehicle plate' which is for vehicles modified beyond stock (you have to show the state what was done, turn in receipts, lots of photos, etc). Then there is the standard 'classic vehicle' tag which I have on the 86. The car has to be 15 years or older, cannot be modified beyond stock and has to be original in appearance.
Both plates/registration allow either my cars to be emissions exempt. Only a safety inspection is required.
always curious about how other states handle collectible vehicles.

I am emissions exempt & inspection exempt. All they want to check is that the odo is working. I think they want under 3,000 miles a year, but my insurance is unlimited mileage. They never could get it together - mileage-wise.
