Speaker removal help!!

I feel silly for having to ask this but I am having difficulty removing my blown out rear speakers in my 88 McLaren. I don't understand how they are attached to the frame or how to get the protective cover off. Anyone who has any insight on how to remove these suckers would be my hero. Anyone? (They are the stock speakers with a protective grill over the front).

Round speakers? The cover should pull straight off.

The 6.5" Kenwood round speakers I have in my car just hold the cover on with little bumps on the speaker. The covers pop on and off.

Thanks Mike. They are the round 6.5 Kenwoods and I pulled on the suckers for about an hour last night and they wouldn't budge. It looks like they definitely got wet at some point so maybe there is some corrision/sticking I am dealing with. Thanks for the help....I will try again tonight to get them off.

Someone may have glued them on. Typically a black sticky tar like material is applied in 2 or 3 spots around the grille where it seats into the surounding ring.
A bent paper clip used carefully to poke through the grille holes and gently pry on from point to point will usually allow the removal safely from the speakers.

Oops, forgot to mention, once the grille covers are off there will be 4 screws visable holding the speaker to the sides

This could be dried hard and giving you problems...

Got em' out last night. They were definitely super glued in and required a screw driver to pry them off. Thanks again for the help Mike and Scott.

I know I tweaked and tweaked my speakers to get those little nubs to hold the cover tight.

A previous owner was probably PISSED at them popping off and decided to fix them "once and for all".
