Flood cars are generally not worth saving since you have to do a total restoration on them. Unfortunatly, these cars don't have the collectors value to make it worthwhile The entire electral system, interior, engine, and tranny are shot. Parting it out is about the only thing one could do to make any money on it.

BTW... It is a 1MH car too.

Really, the only big big drawback (I see) to this car is TIME and the INTERIOR. The car needs to be disassembled, cleaned probably rewired and reassembled. That's BEAUCOUP TIME!

The interior is probably wasted and either you put in regular stuff and forget the asc stuff or just spend a crapload at Hank's buying up a new asc interior.

This car would be the perfect candidate for what's now called a resto-mod. You could do just about anything you'd want to it since it'll never be worth the amount it would take to restore it. Mod the crap out of it and have all the fun you want without having to worry about collector value.

Wish I had the money.

I heard that several times when I presented my 2nd ASC to the ASC community. It was even considered a parts car to some. My car also needed everything (engine, interior, top, wiring), and it has been stripped of all these things already since I've owned it. I have since redone some of the wiring, bought alot from Henry for the interior and exterior, and I also put a new top on the car. The engine and trans are also in the works. Once I get all of the exterior pieces, it will get a shiny new coat inside and out.

Even though many consider my car a lost cause, it is being given a second lease on life. I think this black car has a ton of potential and I would buy it in a heart beat if I hadn't found my car.

I will more than likely proceed as Tom describes Resto-mod style. The exterior, will look dead on an original asc, but under the pretty paint will be a nice driver in every aspect. Kind of like Mr. Martinelli's gem.

I purchased the afformentioned car on ebay. I consider myself and my son very lucky. I passed up an '86 ASC vert a few years ago and vowed that it wouldn't happen again.
The car is not as bad as it looked. The radio and headrest speakers still work. So do the lights. My son is a professional mechanic and vows that THIS CAR WILL LIVE AGAIN. The mileage is original and we found much documentation in the trunk tracing it back to the original purchase and sale as a used vehicle. We even have the Owner's Manual, the original Ford Incomplete Vehicle Manual, and the remains of the ASC 5.0 SC Convertible Folding Top Operation Manual.
We drained about 6 gallons of water from the motor, removed 40 pounds of mud from the floorboards, 20 pounds of mud from the doors, and have learned a lot about how these cars were built. And we still have a long way to go.
I have already spoken to Sandy about what we have found.
Guess I have said enough for now, will post more later.

Since you are forced to go through this "disassembly", take some pictures of areas showing how asc modified the cars. About the only picture I have seen is a fuzzy "backbone" picture.

I hope to get a chance and run up to Hickory and see this car too. Just gotta find some time...

Yes, we've spoken several times & pictures are being taken. Especially interesting will be the inner door panels

This car is very lucky that its new owner found "her" !
I am of the belief that the Recaros STILL work ~ & to me, THAT should go into Guinses's Book of World Records !

It certainly appears that the car was in reasonable to very good condition before taking a swim. I do not know how it happened.

From the extensive (wet) documentation I have found in the car, it came from Mountain Top, PA. My research indicates that is in the Poconos. Any help would be appreciated. When we pulled up the street address, it indicated an elevation of 1400 ft. Not very high and an aerial photo showed that it was in a valley.
The car was flooded sometime in September, hurricane remnants maybe. We are continuing to search for the last owner. Documents indicate that there may have only been two previous owners. And I'm pretty sure that the 53,000 is original.
Also, the speakers in the Recaros do work as does the Alpine stereo. We haven't tried the seat heaters yet, but the wires are not burned or melted.
So much more I could tell, but will sign off. Looking forward to seeing Mike tomorrow and showing him the car.

Yep, I got to see the car. Amazingly, it is very very complete and straight. Unfortunately it is as extremely grungy as the pictures showed.

One thing we noticed is that the car sits very low...it must have been lowered. It sits as low as my car even though it has 215/60/R15 tires which are taller than the coupe's 225/50/R15 tires

Question is...did it get lowered by asc or another owner? The car is so original and untouched its not even funny.
