Time To Sell?

Well guys, looks like it's time to sell the ole girl. My 442 project is nearly complete, and a nice asc/McLaren sized cash infusion just might do the trick to finally get it on the road. I'll let you know for sure when I make the decision, but feel free to berate me for even considering it in the mean time.

Boy, if I could afford another "Child" I'd try and buy it. But, I'd also have to do a total repaint, back to Royal Gold.

Just kidding, calm down! I think it's a beauty and that you need to keep it. Who else would keep her as nice as you have? See? See my point? Really...try & find a way to keep both. You WILL miss her.

In N.J. storage rates & rented garage costs have recently tumbled.

Heated secure 1 car rentals have gone from $335.00 a month to $150 @ month. Yup, ya read that right ! Possibly by you the same has happened, should you need room to keep Bumble Bee.

Would love to see a pic of the 4.4.2 - BTW. Always liked them, especially the 1967.

2 years... I think... might be longer, but 2 years seems to me to be right.

I'd love to keep it... but it's a cash flow thing. If I sell, I have the cash flow to finish the 442, and after 13 years, it would sure be nice to finish it!

As for the paint, I still haven't pulled the sill plates... maybe I'll do that this weekend.

It's a '72 442 "clone." It's not really a clone for that matter since a clone is something that is supposed to copy the original...

Anyway, the idea was to modernize a 442, but without making it too obvious. So it now has real teak wood in the dash and console, tilt and telescopic steering column, fuel injection and a 5-speed, and BIG brakes. A few custom touches on the body as well... I guess it's kind of like a factory show car that the factory never made.

In any case, I didn't want to cut up a good 442, so I started with a VERY rusty Cutlass, and replaced the 1/4s, doors, and fenders with NOS pieces, modified a coupe trunk lid to fit the convertible, and a reproduction O.A.I. hood. Modified a set of fiberglass bumpers and hand made a rear spoiler...

I'd say I need a hobby, but maybe I need a shrink!

Looked at the photos. Too much work. What is done, looks brand new.

Yup, the O.A.I. (Outside Air Induction) hood was used on the W-30 cars. It was also available as an independent option.

Building cars seems to be in my blood. If you go back to the FQuick page and look at the blue on blue '56 Chevy, you will see what I mean. That one was done by my father and I (much of my 442 has been a team effort) as his "Old Man" car. It has tilt, cruise, lighted vanity mirrors, custom interior with hand made armrests and speaker housings, A/C, power windows and vent windows, LT-4 Corvette engine w/fuel injection, Automatic W/overdrive, power door locks, power trunk w/power pull down, power seat... I know there's more, I just can't think of it!

Well, only a day and a few hours left! I can't really believe I am selling it, but I really want to finish the 442... Yikes!

On a 442 note, I started rubbing out the paint and, of course, immediately found a flaw! Argh! Ah well, it's on the top of the right front fender, and I think I will be able to re-shoot just the top and clear out to the side without having to remove the thing. I guess this is just one of the things you do when building your own car!
