1986 ASC Eurocoupe Info Needed

Post by scott86capri »

I am looking at buying an ASC eurocoupe this weekend. I have done quite a bit of research on them and know that they are not numbered. My question is there a tag on the inside or engine bay that would prove what it is. The vin matches one that was built by ASC not Northtowne Licoln Mercury. Lots of weird options from what I am reading. Grey piping on Seats, not red, solid roof car no t-tops,leather wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, 140 mph speedo, and no asc sticker on back it has a little plaque that says ASC Mclaren. It also has the blacked out quarter windows as well as the plugs over back Louver vents. I am fairly certain it's not a fake with the vin matching, but just curious what else I should look for. I am traveling a fairly long distance to pick car up this weekend and am just trying to get my ducks in a row.

I'm not 100% about euro coupe cars but if you look at the radiator core support by the left headlight you should find a tag that looks like this

It's kind of hard to find you might want to bring a flash light.

If it's real I could be one of only nine ttop cars. We would love to see some pics even if you don't buy it get pics and last 6 of vin.

I have the last part of vin and will post when I get it or not get it on Saturday. The guy has owned this car for 19 years I think he said it is very original only used as summer driver it's rough has been hit in front but little to no rust and has clean title interior not to bad from pics I have I guess I will see on Saturday. I will post vin and info on Monday wether I buy or pass. If I don't want it someone here might. I have an 86 RS now that we restored and had one new in high school as well traded it when we had kids in 1993 for a Mitsubishi mirage what a change that was. If I could have kept both I would have but money was tight back then.

Well after a long drive almost 20 hours round trip I am the proud owner of a 1986 eurocoupe and it is definitely real vins match tag from mclaren is there all is very clean except for hit in front but absolutely worth saving as I said before there are strange options from what I read on a eurocoupe the quarter glass has the smoked cover it has the grey piping on seats leather wrapped wheel and shifter and 140 speedo once we get it on the lift I am curious what else is from full production it is amazingly clean no undercoating and no rust under car at all. I will post vin and start a new thread with pics as I have lots of questions and want to document the rebuild back to its former glory

Thanks for your help

Thank You and will try to keep all informed I cannot figure out how to post my pictures it keeps telling me file size is to big the cars last six of vin is #618896 which should be # 17 on the list. I have an I phone and don't know or can't figure out how to resize images. I can take a car apart and reassemble no problem but can't figure that out LOL.

You are going to learn that there is a lot of gray area with our cars. I have heard of several euro coupes with gray piping on the seats and with 1/4 window black outs.

Bought mine in 1997 and have done some things to it. 99 percent repainted, new heater core, air dam, mufflers, head and tail light covers, asc floor mats, brakes, shocks, wheels. Nothing to the motor except water pump. Runs good. 117,000 now miles. Had 85,000 miles when I bought it.
