I have been to the FFF many times, and it's always a great show. I didn't make it this year, but have had my 79 in the show a few times. They never know where to put the Capris. I've been in a few different groups. Once I was in the Fox Mustang group, once I was in Misc., and the picture below I was ...

Mark hit this one on the head. They make simple little clips you put on the inner tie rod ends to limit the travel of the raack and pinion. I had to do this on my 79 RS because the Cobra R rims have about 6" of backspacing. I also have a bag of these clips somewhere in my garage. I will look for ...

Rescard,

I'm not sure what type of induction you are running... But you should be able to fit most Carb/intake combos under the stock hood. I have a 351 Windsor block (taller than the 302) with a Edelbrock Victor Jr, a 1" Phenolic spacer, a Holley 750 HP, and a regular 3" tall 14" dia. chrome ...

Restoring a very poor car...

Trust me, I know all about restoring a very poor car. As I mentioned, when I bought my car, it was no where near stock. All the A/C equipment was gone, as well as all the smog equipment. The original block had been replaced with an off the shelf rebuild, and it had aftermarket intake, carb and ...

Back to the question at hand...

I agree with Sandy and Mike (& others) that you should restore it back to original. If you want a go fast toy, find a "not-so-collectible" Capri/Mustang. That's what I did, but the other way around. I built my go fast toy out of a plain jane 79 RS, and now I am restoring one of the most collectible ...

Of the GPIV? I know, I've been slacking. :sleepy: I need to get some updated photos on there. I created that site for the '79 RS, but eventually there will be almost as much on the GPIV... :burnout:

I already have the decals, and am having the shop who's painting it put them on.

But once it is done, I am planning on bringing it to one of the GPIV get-togethers...

Believe it or not, most people don't know the meaning of mine! I usually explain it as, "six and a half liters of Mercury"!

I want to get one for my GPIV when it gets out of the paint shop. Here's what I'm contemplating:

GPIV ...

Those are the Ford assessory covers. Functionally the same as the ones that came stock (early cars had white, later cars dark charcoal). Ford Motorsports also produced a set with their logo on it.

This is what I thought, but this guy seemed to think these were for a GPIV, so I had to ask the ...

Anyone seen these fog light covers?

Found these on E-bay. Anyone know what they came on? Would these be accurate for my GPIV?

85GPIV Is your GPIV the one in primer on the GPIV site? I remember that one on ebay several years ago did you buy it there or never sold it curious :?:

David,

Mine is 615266, not the one in primer. I bought it from a guy in Texas that I met on FEP about a year and a half ago. It had a blown ...

J,

I don't believe Roush ever fielded a Grand Prix race car, correct me if I am wrong.

David

roush did not have a team of there own, but they didnt need one. they were with Ford/Mercury. they built there race cars.

I saw the above comments, and wanted to try to clarify the issue... Jack ...

I can tell you that my GPIV does have the CRS on the buck tag. That was one of the first things I checked. And my car also has the GS tag on the hatch.

I know this discussion has been ongoing for awhile, but to me it seems pretty clear. I believe somewhere in early-to-mid 1985, Mercury dropped the ...

Agreed...

I didn't mean to say that the best way to buy one of these cars is as a fixer-upper. Sorry if that's how I came off. I was just stating that this is the way I prefer to do it. I agree that not everyone can restore cars, and this car is definitely for them.

I could have gone ...

Since this is right up my alley... :lurk:

I whole-heartedly agree with you on this Sandy. Cars like ours require special buyers. I've seen evidence of this, like you, at many auctions.

I saw this car when it first came up on E-bay when I was looking for a GPIV a few months back. It is a very nice ...
